Can You Do Yoga Teacher Training While Working Full Time?

The answer is yes – and more people do it than you might think.

Most of the graduates who come through our ‘Ignite Your Passion’ 200hr Yoga Teacher Training are working professionals. Teachers, nurses, marketing managers, architects, lawyers. People with full diaries, real responsibilities, and a quiet but persistent feeling that something needs to change.

If you’ve been wondering whether yoga teacher training is realistic for you right now, this post is for you.

Is Yoga Teacher Training Compatible With a Full-Time Job?

It depends on the format, and this is where a lot of people get confused.

Some programmes require you to take weeks off work, travel abroad, or attend daily sessions over an intensive month. Those formats suit some people. But they’re not the only option, and for most working adults, they’re simply not practical.

Weekend-based programmes exist precisely for this reason. Ours runs one weekend per month over seven months, which means you’re in the studio two days a month. The rest of the time, you’re living your normal life – with some homework, self-practice, and reflection woven in.

The training fits around your job, not the other way around.

What Makes a Weekend Format Work for Working Professionals

The weekend format isn’t just a scheduling convenience, it’s actually a better way to learn.

When you have time between training weekends to integrate what you’ve experienced, it sticks differently. You practise what you’ve learned in your own body. You notice things during the week – in a meeting, in a conversation, on your mat at home – that connect back to what you covered in the studio. You arrive at the next weekend having already processed the last one.

Our 200hr Yoga Teacher Training in London runs on this model. Seven months, one weekend per month, in Shepherd’s Bush, South West London. Designed specifically for people who have full lives and still want to do something meaningful within them.

Over 900 graduates have completed this training. The vast majority were working throughout.

What to Expect Week to Week (Outside of Training Weekends)

This is the question people don’t always think to ask, and it matters.

Outside of your training weekends, you can expect:

A self-practice commitment. You’ll be asked to maintain a regular personal yoga practice between weekends. This doesn’t mean hours a day – it means consistency. Even 20–30 minutes several times a week makes a significant difference to your development.

Homework assignments. These vary across the programme but are designed to be manageable alongside work. Essays, reflections, and reading rather than anything that requires you to take time off.

A written and practical exam. These come toward the end of the programme and give you the opportunity to demonstrate what you’ve learned. Most students find the preparation process valuable in itself.

Community connection. One of the things graduates consistently mention is the people. You’ll go through this alongside a cohort of others in similar situations, people who become a genuine support network, professionally and personally.

Common Concerns – and Honest Answers

“I’m worried I won’t have enough energy after a full working week.”

This is worth thinking about. Training weekends are full days – 8am to 6pm – and they’re immersive. However, most people find that the nature of the training is energising rather than depleting, but prepare yourself in the best way, you do need to protect the weekends. Don’t schedule anything demanding the Friday night before or the Sunday evening after.

“I’m not at an advanced enough level.”

You don’t need to be. The minimum requirement is at least 6 months of regular yoga practice so that you’re comfortable with the postures. You don’t need to be able to do a handstand. You need to be willing to learn.

“What if work gets busy and I miss a weekend?”

Life happens. We’d encourage you to talk to us about this directly – you can check our FAQs or book a discovery call to discuss your specific situation. We’d rather have that conversation early than have you feel you have to choose between the training and your job.

“I’m not sure I want to teach – I just want to deepen my practice.”

That’s a completely valid reason to do the training, and you won’t be alone. Many graduates complete the programme with no immediate intention of teaching, and find it transforms how they relate to yoga, to themselves, and to their work. The teaching skills are part of the curriculum, but the personal development runs through every weekend.

Is This the Right Time for You?

There’s rarely a perfect time. There will always be a project at work, a family commitment, a reason to wait another six months.

What we’ve noticed, after training over 900 graduates, is that the people who do this training aren’t people who have loads of spare time. They’re people who’ve decided that this matters enough to make room for.

If you’ve been thinking about it, that’s worth paying attention to.

Our next cohort begins in September 2026. If you’d like to ask questions, talk through whether the timing works, or find out more about what the programme involves, book a free 20-minute discovery call.
